Side choke transition from Hooks in

Printer Friendly Version

Here is a transition that I have been catching lately, nothing fancy, but I thought I'd share it with you guys to see if you had anything to add to it, or just to see if it helped anyone else out there.

Step 1

Here I have Chris's back, I have the seat belt grip with my right arm under his right armpit and my left arm over his shoulder.

Step 2

Keeping my grip strong, I roll to my left side

Step 3

I put my right hook under Chris's right knee, if he tries to step out to escape, it actually makes my transition easier

Step 4

If Chris doesn't step out, then I plant my left foot on the ground and use my right hook to push Chris forward - This motion allows me to pull my left foot out from underneath Chris's body

Step 5

Now I switch my hips bringing my left leg all the way outto my left sid. At the same time I shoot my right arm deep under Chris's neck while driving my right shoulder deep into Chris's shoulder

Step 6

I drive my head to the mat and towards Chris's head as I work my right arm in as deep as possible.

Step 7

I sprawl out, and tighten my grip as I flex my right bicep and drive my bodyweight into the side choke to finish

nice i like at step 3 to put in a lockdown and use a shallow half nelson reverse duck under to put the arm to his/her head to apply the side arm triangle choke

This is sweet! Do you think it's better to finish the side choke sprawled out like that rather than sitting out kinda like a scarf hold?

Diabolic, I like it a lot too... I too sometimes sprawl like that, but her elately I have made it a habit to place my close knee in their sternum and my far foot on their hip.
What's the Irish guy's name that has been fighting in the UFC lately that sets up side chokes similar to this?

i do sort of the same transition.. i wait till hes bridging up i have a deep underhook on say his left arm,,,, so i take out my right hook and put my left foot accross his hips and hook my foot onto his right hip..now when he starts pushin back i slide him off me and i roll straight to mount..i have my leg accross his hips so he cannot catch me in half guard....i transition straight to a arm tri and im mounted..then you can step over to side and finish

Nice move! Personally at step 3 I would put the lockdown on the leg and underhook his right arm and work for the twister....but thats just me. I like the side choke though!

I like these "nothing fancy" but it works moves! My main training partner is an arm triangle maniac. He'll be happy to have this one in his arsenal. Thanks for sharing it!

thanx again, Chaz.
can´t even thank you enough for all the wisdom u share w/us.
great move. have a lil´question, though:
in pic 5, how do you make sure ur opp doesn´t ´answer the phone´? maybe it is a good idea, to try and control his right wrist w/ur left hand in pic 5. what do you think? what would you try? please lemme know.

Very nice Chaz. Looks like it'd be a great transition to use on folks with good RNC defense.

You notice in step five how he is driving his head into the upper part of the shoulder and into the guy on bottoms head that will control him from answering the phone...

I would not say it's sloppy, Josh... but, it's a still picture. If it was a video I think we all would see just how fast that "step 5" could actually be!
